During the Summer of 1971 Topps was already preparing cards for the upcoming 1971-1972 basketball season. On July 23, 1971 the Buffalo Braves traded Herb Gilliam to the Atlanta Hawks for Walt Hazzard. Topps had already prepared cards for these two players but had to modify them to account for the team changes. Offered her are two blank-backed proofs shwoing Gilliam and Hazzard with their original teams (also included are the two actual cards that were issued once Topps released the set). The proof cards appear to be hand cut and have the card numbers (Hazzard “24” and Gilliam “123”) written in pencil on their reverses. Likely one of a kind pieces.
