In 1925 the Pottsville Maroons dominated the NFL, winning the NFL title only to have it stripped from them on a technicality. The NFL has held fast to it's ruling for nearly 100 years; but to this day the residents of Pottsville, Pennsylvania and many NFL purist believe that the title belongs to the Maroons. The Maroons were not even members of the NFL in 1924; but were members of the Anthracite League. They won that title and along the way had to convince Joe Carr and the NFL that they were worthy of a league franchise for 1925. On November 9, 1924 Pottsville and a throng of fans traveled to Atlantic City to watch the Maroons take on the Roses. Pottsville whipped Atlantic City 22 to 0 and to commemorate the event (and provide evidence that their town could support a NFL franchise) a photo was taken of the team and it's fans sometime before, during or after the game. The offered relic from the game measures 10" x 43". The panoramic photo has multiple tears, tape repairs and chips to the borders but presents extremely well despite it's technical condition. A great piece for framing and display.
