Bertram Waters started at three different positions (guard, tackle, halfback) during his career with the Crimson. Contemporary accounts describe Waters as powerfully built, heavy and fast which would explain his ability to play on the line and in the backfield. Waters served as team captain during his senior year (1893) while starting at halfback. In 1894 Waters played while attending his first year of law school but was asked to relinquish his title as captain due to his status as a graduate student. He was selected as an All American in 1892 (guard) and 1894 (tackle). Waters coached the Crimson during the 1896 and 1897 seasons while completing his law degree. During the early 1900's when football came under great scrutiny for it's violent nature; Waters was a strong and vocal proponent of the game. This example is the finest N302 Waters in the hobby; graded PSA 8, the only specimen at this level with none higher.
