He was called "Net" by his teammates, but Neilson (pronounced Nelson) Poe was a scrappy 5' 4" halfback and quarterback who received considerable playing time during his junior and senior seasons (1895-1896). He was one of six Poe brothers to play for Princeton. Neilson was named after his paternal Grandfather who was the second cousin and close associate of the famous American author Edgar Allen Poe. As a result of this close association with the writer Poe and the legacy of the six Poe brothers at Princeton, Neilson's card typically commands the highest prices behind only the Dunlop (Anonymous) N302. Poe earned a law degree from the University of Maryland in 1900 and later served in the American Expeditionary Services during World War I (he received the Distinguished Service Cross). Offered here is the highest graded Poe card in the hobby, a PSA 7, 1 of 1. For perspective the highest recorded sale price for a N302 was for a PSA 4 example which sold for $2500.
