William Douglas Ward was considered the best all around athlete on the Princeton teams of the early to mid-1890's. During his junior season Ward played halfback and scored the only touchdown in the championship game against Yale. Along with Morse he played quarterback during his senior season replacing Philip King who had graduated. Renowned for his academic abilities while at Princeton; Ward later earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania (1899). He was known as one of the finest physicians in the New York City region. This example of Ward's N302 has been graded as a PSA 7, which is the only example at this level with none higher.
