Thomas Gawthrop Trenchard, better known as "Doggie" because of his shaggy hair, was a three year starter at end (also occasionally fullback) for Princeton (1892, 1893, 1894). Trenchard captained the Tigers gridiron squad during the 1893 and 1894 seasons. He was also a four year varsity catcher for the Princeton baseball team. Trenchard played professionally for Latrobe and Allegheny in the mid to late 1890's and is considered by most to be the first college graduate to do so. Trenchard served as a coach for short stints at West Virginia, Pitt and North Carolina. Following his football career, Trenchard worked in the lumber business and as an oil representative. Offered here is the second finest example of an N302 Trenchard known in the hobby; graded PSA 6 with only one specimen higher.
